I have never cared for the news. I have actually always quite disliked the news. The news always bored me so I never watched broadcast news. I never read newspapers either because they bored me as well and the ink got on my hands.
Needless to say, I had never written any piece of news before this class. I didn’t think I would like it and I wasn’t excited at all about the prospect of taking a class related to news in any form. But as it turns out, my love for writing trumped my distaste for news. I really enjoyed writing articles each class.
I also learned news isn’t so bad. It isn’t always upsetting and includes a narration of something sad. It can be a fun article about a baseball game or an uplifting piece about a free clinic that gives people medical care when they can’t afford it. News isn’t all bad.
And that has been my journey as a news writer.
